Dental Crowns in Webster Groves, MO
Crowns are helpful to restore a tooth’s strength and appearance. Crowns (also referred as caps) are typically necessary to repair a badly broken tooth. They can also be used to cover a large filling or to simply protect a tooth from a severe fracture in the future. Crowning your tooth now may help you avoid a root canal or extraction. It is important for a crown to properly fit your tooth, because an ill-fitting crown is more likely to cause long-term problems, such as developing a cavity and needing to be replaced.
What to expect at your appointment
At Webster Groves Dental, creating and placing crowns typically requires two appointments over a two week period. At the first appointment, we focus on providing a good foundation for the crown by cleaning any decay, bonding any necessary filling material, and reshaping the tooth so the crown will fit properly. Next, we take an impression which the lab will use to make a model of your teeth. The lab technician will spend the next two weeks creating a customized crown to match the size, form, and appearance of your tooth. We will place a temporary crown, so you can eat normally while the lab creates the crown. Once we receive the crown, Dr. Wenzel will place the crown so it fits comfortably and aligns properly with your bite.
Do you offer same day crowns?
There are some dental offices that advertise same day crowns. While this is convenient for the patient we feel the technology is not currently advanced enough to offer the same type of quality crown that a lab will handcraft. At Webster Groves Dental, we use a high-quality lab that creates crowns designed specifically for your mouth that not only will last for years to come, but also will fit and look better than “same-day crowns.”
If you believe you need a crown, contact our office today and we will schedule an appointment to go over your options.
